Sleep regulatory centres dysfunction in Parkinson’s disease patients with excessive daytime sleepiness. An in vivo PET study
-
In this paper, eleven Parkinson’s disease patients (PD) with Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) and ten without EDS were assessed with 18F-dopa and 11C-DASB. For each tracer, PET findings in PD patients were compared with those of ten healthy volunteers. PET images were analyzed with region of interest approach and whole brain voxel-by-voxel analysis. Both methods provide evidence that monoaminergic dysfunction in the neuronal networks responsible for the establishment and maintenance of wakefulness contributes to EDS in PD
