Each singlet MLCT state deactivates to its corresponding triplet by intersystem crossing well before 350 fs in Ru(ii) polypyridine complexes, 27,29 so both triplet MLCT levels involving peripheral and bridging ligands are very rapidly produced upon light excitation.
