    • Noncoincidence of the IR and Raman frequencies of the C O stretch of 2-azetidinone has been explained by the presence of cyclic H-bonded dimers with a center of symmetry. The C O vibration that is symmetric with respect to the center of symmetry is then observed at 1697 cm-1 in the Raman spectrum, while the asymmetric mode is observed at 1723 cm-1 in the IR spectrum.38
