    • The bile acid moiety will be indicated first by either using C (cholic), DC (deoxycholic) or LC (lithocholic) with a subscript indicating the number of carbons in the bile acid segment (as there are 23 and 24 carbons in the bile acid segment for the spacers P and Q respectively). This will be followed by indicating the perfluoroalkyl segment. For example, DC23 C 11 F23 means it is a deoxycholic derivative and the perfluoroalkyl group -C11F23 is joined to the bile acid moiety by the -O-(CO)- linkage. Similarly, C24 CH2 C 9 F19 suggests that it is a cholic acid derivative and the perfluoroalkyl chain -C9F19 is connected to the bile acid moiety through -(CO)-OCH2- linkage
