24. The methyl-3 group is strictly axial because of an important bulkiness with the N-acyl group and drives the chair conformation of the oxazinane ring. The osmylation gives a cis-diol moiety in positions 4 and 5, the trans-protons H-3 and H-4 are equatorial and the trans-protons H-5 and H-6 are axial, in agreement with a weak J(3,4) ca. 2.5 Hz and a large trans-diaxial J(5,6) = ca. 10 Hz, cf Defoin, A.; Sarazin, H.; Streith, J.
