    • In Scheme 1, charge signs and unpaired electrons are removed to keep the generality of reaction scheme. In this study, the aromatics is a radical cation and the nucleophile are neutral, and the resultant σ-complex is a radical cation. On the other hand, in general (textbook) nucleophilic aromatic substitutions, the aromatics are neutral, and the nucleophile is an anion, resulting in the negatively charged σ-complex (refs 1-6).
