Amberlite IRA900F is a trimethylammonium fluoride on macroreticular polystyrene resin which is commercially available from Aldrich as “Fluoride on polymer support” or as “Fluoride on Amberlyst A-26”. Commercially available Amb-F is a hygroscopic solid which contains ca. 20 wt% of water. In general we have used water-free Amb-F which was obtained by drying the commercial product under vacuum

Calculation of E-factor has been performed in the understanding that not all the cases reported in the literature have paid attention to waste minimization in the setting of protocols. Besides the solvent used for the work-up procedures, it can certainly be concluded that in our case the most significant contribution to the E-factor minimization is due to the elimination of aqueous HCl waste, thanks to the novel de-silylation process promoted by Dowex 50Wx8 H

Since Amb-F is a fluoride source with a very large counter ion (polystyryl trimethylammonium) we have not taken into consideration the formation of a hexavalent silicon species (see)
