    • The reported gas flow rates do not include the significant, although steady, gas leakage from the syringe and tubing fittings leading up to the reactor. We found this to be the case even with nominally gas-tight syringes. However, the slug lengths were measured directly from images taken of the reactor channel, so the reported mean residence times are accurate.

    • From Ref. [5], we estimate the mixing time for segmented flow in our system to be ≈ 1 % of the average residence time. For the single-phase case, the diffusive mixing time can be > 50% of the average residence time depending on the flow rate.
