    • The MAPK-activated kinase Rsk controls an acute Toll-like receptor signaling response in dendritic cells and is activated through two distinct pathways
    • First study to identify a role for a MAP kinase-activated kinase in TLR signalled responses in DCs and also shows that MAP kinase 'wiring' is different in DCs. Rsk (p90 ribosomal S6 kinase) was required for TLR-stimulated pinocytosis and is activated both by Erk and surprisingly, by p38 MAP kinase in DC, via the p38-activated kinases MK2/MK3.

    • Disruption of E-cadherin-mediated adhesion induces a functionally distinct pathway of dendritic cell maturation
    • Illustrates that DCs are exquisitely sensitive to mechanical manipulation which through disruption of E-cadherin contacts, GSK3β inactivation and β-catenin accumulation, signals a mode of DC maturation that promotes development of regulatory T cells. The authors propose that an analogous signalling pathway might be induced in vivo as tissue DC break contact with their neighbours and migrate to lymph nodes under steady-state conditions.
