Acta, 2010, in press - doi:10.1016/j.ica.2009.12.041) and others (ref. 33, 37) have frequently observed facial coordination of tBuDPA and related RDPA tridentate ligands to nickel(ii); meridional coordination of this ligand is rarely seen. This is likely related to conformational preferences of the ligands. Contrary to expectations, nickel-nitrogen bond lengths (specifically, the shortened Ni-N\ bonds for the mer-coordinated tBuDPA ligand as compared to the fac isomer) do not correlate with conformational preferences of the ligand
