A negative referee pointed out that 2 had not been isolated from the dinoflagellates. However, we think that 2 is a key compound to verify the proposed biosynthetic route of marine ladder-frame polyethers by using as a substrate for exploration of epoxidation and epoxide opening enzymes in the dinoflagellates. Therefore the synthesis of 2 is important and will accelerate biosynthetic studies on marine ladder-frame polyethers.
