    • The positioning of broad reflections in the pattern suggests that the product is most likely a mixture of phases similar to 1 and 2. This assumption was further supported by comparison with the PXRD pattern of a neat ground mixture of 1 and 2, previously prepared by LAG with nitromethane.

    • The composition of the material was difficult to establish using TG due to the rapid loss of included solvent upon exposure to air. Consequently, the composition was established from single crystal X-ray structure determination. Simulated PXRD pattern coincided with the measured pattern for the fresh material prepared by LAG.

    • The same rationalisation can also be used to explain the difference between LAG and solution experiments involving nitromethane, that is, the inability to construct significant amounts of 1 from solution.
