Roles of caudal-related homeobox gene Cdx1 in oesophageal epithelial cells in Barrett's epithelium development
-
This significant publication provides, for the first time, evidence of the induction of CDX1 in oesophagitis before the development of intestinal metaplasia in a rat model of Barrett's metaplasia. The authors also examined the interplay between CDX1 and CDX2 and demonstrated that CDX1 and CDX2 cause upregulation of each other by directly binding to the promoter of the other transcription factor.

Cdx1 and c-Myc foster the initiation of transdifferentiation of the normal esophageal squamous epithelium toward Barrett's esophagus
-
This is a highly novel study in immortalised human oesophageal keratinocytes, demonstrating that CDX1 in concert with c-myc causes induction of intestinal cytokeratins and mucins similar to the phenotype seen in Barrett's metaplasia.

Interaction of Toll-like receptors with bacterial components induces expression of CDX2 and MUC2 in rat biliary epithelium in vivo and in culture

This publicatoin examines the effects of pathogen associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) on Cdx2 expression, providing the first evidence that bacterial products, such as lipopolysaccharides cause induction of Cdx2 and mucin 2 in biliary epithelial cells via toll-like receptors.
