This study shows that ABCA1 is highly expressed in β-cells and is important for maintaining normal insulin secretion. It also highlights the importance of ABCA1 in the action of thiazolidinediones.

This article describes the deleterious effects of β-cell cholesterol accumulation on insulin secretion. It shows that excess cholesterol inhibits glucokinase activity, decreases glycolysis and reduces insulin secretion. These effects were alleviated by depleting the β-cells of cholesterol

This article describes the deleterious effects of β-cell cholesterol accumulation on insulin secretion. It shows that excess cholesterol inhibits glucokinase activity, decreases glycolysis and reduces insulin secretion. These effects were alleviated by depleting the β-cells of cholesterol.
