    • We performed simple calculation with molecular lattice, where the lattice constant of biotinylated thiol SAMs is assumed to be 5 A on gold nanoparticles of 24 nm in diameter. The coverage with biotin was estimated by the total amount of biotinylated thiols in solution assuming 100% reaction of the thiols with gold. As a typical value, 430 L of 16.5 M biotinylated thiol solution was added to 5.0 mL of ca. 2 nM gold nanoparticles dispersion solution.
