Roine I, Peltola H, Fernández J, et al. Influence of admission findings on death and neurological outcome from childhood bacterial meningitis. Clin Infect Dis 2008; 46:1248-1252. Although virtually all treatment studies associate the outcome of bacterial meningitis with the causative agent, this study shows that the even more important characteristic is the child's presenting condition. This cofactor should be included in all treatment studies, and especially, if different studies are compared.
