The difference between the electronegativities of the donor and acceptor is given by: χD, χA, IPD+EAD/2, IPA+EA A/2, IPD+EAA/2-IPA+EA D/2, where the first term is proportional to the energy of the excited CT state Ψ(D+A, while the second term is proportional to the energy of the CT state Ψ(D-A, Thus, the larger the absolute value of the difference XD-XA, the more effective is the charge transfer from the donor to the acceptor with respect to the back CT from the acceptor to the donor
