    • Antimicrobial susceptibility testing: The in vitro activities of the antibiotics were determined by the broth microdilution method as recommended by the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI, Methods for Dilution Antimicrobial Susceptibility Tests for Bacteria That Grow Aerobically; Approved Standards: M7-A7, 26, 7th ed, Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute, Wayne, PA (USA, 2006) using Mueller-Hinton II broth (MHBII, BBL Cockeysville, MD, USA, Microtiter plates containing serial dilutions of each antimicrobial agent were inoculated with each organism to yield the appropriate density (105 CFUmL-1) in a final of 100 mL. The plates were incubated for 18-22 h at 35°C in ambient air. The MIC for all isolates was defined as the lowest concentration of antimicrobial agent that completely inhibits the growth of the organism as detected by the unaided eye
