General procedure for the synthesis of 2-substituted-2,3-dihydro-4(1H)-quinazolinones: To a solution of 2-aminobenzamide (2 mmol) in TFE (5 mL) was added the required aldehydes or ketones (6 mmol) and the reaction mixture was refluxed for the stipulated time. The progress of the reaction is monitored by TLC. After completion of the reaction, the product was filtered and purified by recrystallization or chromatography.
