This article shows that increased amino acid availability resulting in overactivation of S6 kinase 1 is tightly linked to reduction of insulin-stimulated glucose metabolism in human skeletal muscle. The authors suggest that S6 kinase 1 could be an attractive target in the prevention and treatment of nutrient-induced insulin resistance.
