    • Nod2 is a general sensor of peptidoglycan through muramyl dipeptide (MDP) detection
    • The authors demonstrate that the specific moiety in bacteria that stimulates the NOD2/CARD15 pathway is muramyl dipeptide (MDP) present in peptidoglycan. The authors compared the ability of wild-type NOD2 and the 1007fs mutation to detect MDP showing enhanced NF-κB activity with wild type but absent response with possession of the 1007fs mutation. This suggests that CD results from an abnormal response to pathogens.
