Levine Multiple pools of phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate detected using the pleckstrin homology domain of Osh2p J Biol Chem 279 2004 44683 44689 The targeting of Golgi-localized PH domains, such as those of FAPP and OSBP, depends on PtdIns(4)P and as a result they are sometimes used as intracellular reporters of PtdIns(4)P, despite their also binding PtdIns(4,5)P2 in vitro. This paper clearly shows that these PH domains do not recognise all PtdIns(4)P in yeast, presumably reflecting the known additional requirement for Arf1 for Golgi binding. In addition, the membrane binding of the PH domain from the yeast protein Osh2 appears to be solely dependent on PtdIns(4)P and PtdIns(4,5)P2, allowing a clearer examination of the subcellular distribution of these lipids.

Depalmitoylation appears to allow activated Ras to translocate across the cytosol to the Golgi, where it can recruit effectors.
