As we have noted, eqs 4-7 were also derived with the assumption that the field-perturbations to the individual transitions are small compared to their line widths and intensities. We do not consider violations of these assumptions to yield nonclassical Stark effects because eqs 4-7 continue to apply so long as the Stark spectrum is fit to a sum of the zeroth-, first-, and second-order and higher order v̄-weighted derivatives of the absorption spectrum. This behavior is readily derived from the other assumptions of the classical Stark analysis.
