    • The XANES spectrum of 5 is a poor match for the cell samples, most likely because it contains only O-donor ligands while the Cr in cells is bound by a mixture of O- and N-donor ligands. This does not, however, affect the EXAFS of 5 as the Cr-O and Cr-N bond distances are very similar and O- and N-backscatterers are indistinguishable by EXAFS
