    • On the assumption that the density of the liquid crystal is 1.28 (ρ = 1.28), the number of molecules in dendrimer 1 per unit cell is estimated to be 4 (Z = 4). Since the number of molecules per unit cell of the SmE phase is 2 (Z = 2), dimer formation can be predicted as shown in Figure 2.
