This approach is of major importance in the area of tissue engineering in which the achievement and the preservation of the cellular phenotype of transplanted cells are very crucial to the therapeutic outcome. The conclusion on an osteoarthritic phenotype of chondrocytic-differentiated cells demonstrates the care needed in avoiding overinterpretation of data.
