Abnormal somatotopic arrangement of sensorimotor interactions in dystonic patients
-
Tamburin S, Manganotti P, Marzi CA, et al. Abnormal somatotopic arrangement of sensorimotor interactions in dystonic patients. Brain 2002; 125 (Pt 12):2719-2730. In this study, an interaction between cutaneous afferents and motor output was studied in patients with hand or cervical dystonia. The results demonstrate that the topographic input-output organization of cutaneomotor interaction is lost in dystonia patients.

Abnormal cortical mechanisms of voluntary muscle relaxation in patients with writer's cramp: An fMRI study
-
Oga T, Honda M, Toma K, et al. Abnormal cortical mechanisms of voluntary muscle relaxation in patients with writer's cramp: an fMRI study. Brain 2002; 125 (Pt 4):895-903. Eight writer's cramp patients were studied with functional magnetic resonance imaging while performing two motor tasks (muscle relaxation and muscle contraction). The activation of sensorimotor cortex and bilateral supplementary area was impaired during both motor tasks, implying abnormalities in inhibitory and excitatory motor cortical mechanisms.
