Regulation of muscle protein by amino acids
-
Wolfe RR. Regulation of muscle protein by amino acids. J Nutr 2002; 132:3219S-3224S. This is an important review on results obtained using a model of amino acid kinetics in the leg, based on the arterio-venous difference method and tracer infusion. It emphasizes the importance of the variations of extracellular free amino acid concentrations and their timing in relation to resistance exercise.

The stimulation of post-prandial muscle protein synthesis, which is lower in old rats than in mature rats, is restored by the pulse protein feeding pattern.
