Normal regional distribution of membrane current density in rat left ventricle is altered in catecholamine-induced hypertrophy
-
Ca) density was reduced in hypertrophy, but the regional distribution was similar in the three regions studied in both control and hypertrophied hearts. These data may in part explain the reduction in the normal regional differences in action potential duration observed in hypertrophy.

+ currents in dogs with chronic complete atrioventricular block and acquired torsades de pointes
-
K5 densities of both LV and RV cells were significantly lower in chronic AVB than control. Significant downregulation of delayed rectifier K current occurs in both ventricles of the dog with chronic AVB. Acquired TdP in this animal model with biventricular hypertrophy is related to intrinsic repolarization defects.

Heterogeneous transmural gene expression of calcium-handling proteins and natriuretic peptides in the failing human heart
-
2+ exchanger are differentially expressed across the left ventricular wall, implicating (1) different susceptibility of subendocardium and subepicardium to factors affecting expression of these proteins and (2) differences in regulation of the distinct calcium-cycling proteins.

Diminished basal phosphorylation level of phospholamban in the postinfarction remodeled rat ventricle: Role of beta-adrenergic pathway, G(i) protein, phosphodiesterase, and phosphatases
-
2+-ATPase and phospholamban (PLB) in post-MI left ventricle of the rat compared with control. However, the basal levels of both the protein kinase A-phosphorylated site (Ser16) of PLB (p16-PLB) and the calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase-phosphorylated site (Thr17) of PLB (p17-PLB) were decreased in post-MI myocytes. The prolonged relaxation of post-MI remodeled myocardium could be explained, in part, by altered basal levels of p16-PLB and p17-PLB caused by increased protein phosphatase 1 activity.
