    • It should also be noted that all attempts at copolymerizing 6 or 8 with styrene in the presence of traditional atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) systems such as bipyridyl or alkylated bipyridyls failed, probably because of the reaction of the active ester groups with the pyridine groups, which resulted in the destruction of the mediating copper complex.
