    • A plant-based cholera toxin B subunit-insulin fusion protein protects against the development of autoimmune diabetes
    • The authors expressed a fusion protein between insulin and CT-B in transgenic potato plants. Mice were fed with transgenic tubers containing either the fusion protein or insulin alone. The former experiment resulted in significantly less insulitis and a delay in the progression of clinical diabetes. This approach provides a method to increase sensitivity against antigens which otherwise would only elicit immune responses at expression levels not easily attainable in transgenic plants
