Survival of patients with glioblastoma multiforme is not influenced by altered expression of p16, p53, EGFR, MDM2 or Bcl-2 genes
-
Newcomb EW, Cohen H, Lee SR, Bhalla SK, Bloom J, Hayes RL, Miller DC: Survival of patients with glioblastoma multiforme is not influenced by altered expression of p16, p53, EGFR, MDM2 or 3Bcl-2 genes. Brain Pathol 1998, 8:655-667. The status of several tumor suppressor and oncogenes was studied mainly by immunohistochemistry in a set of 80 glioblastoma patients of various age groups. Survival testing showed that altered expression of p16, p53, EGFR, MDM2, or Bcl-2 had no prognostic significance.

A novel gene LGI1 from 10q24 is rearranged and downregulated in malignant brain tumors
-
Chernova OB, Somerville RPT, Cowell JK: A novel gene LGI1 from 10q24 is rearranged and downregulated in malignant brain tumors. Oncogene 1998, 17:2873-2881. Using positional cloning strategy a novel gene, LG11, involved in translocation in the T98G glioblastoma cell line was isolated. The gene is mapped to 10q24 and expressed in normal brain. It is a candidate tumor suppressor gene because rearrangements and loss of expression were seen in high-grade tumors.
