DNA shuffling of a family of gene from diverse species accelerates directed evolution
-
of outstanding interest
-
Crameri AC, Raillard S, Stemmer WPC. DNA shuffling of a family of gene from diverse species accelerates directed evolution. of outstanding interest Nature. 1997; This paper describes the use of homologous gene family shuffling to obtain large jumps in fitness in a single cycle of DNA shuffling. This is the first paper to show the utility of family shuffling for rapid evolution of a gene and it is a technique which is expected to open up approaches to many new problems by directed evolution of gene families.
