J Cell Biol 1996, 134:255-266. Chemokines mediate chemotaxis and promote tight adhesion of myeloid cells to vascular endothelium. In contrast, on lymphocytes the known chemokines are only able to mediate chemotaxis. This is due to a difference in chemokine-receptor density. The authors suggest that unknown chemokines specific for lymphocytes must exist.
