Multicopy overexpression of bovine pancreatic trypsin inhibitor saturates the protein folding and secretory capacity of Saccharomyces cerevisiae
-
of special interest. Using an expression system for BPTI in S. cerevisiae, the authors showed that overexpressed protein accumulates intracellularly in an unfolded form due to the saturation of the folding capacity of the secretory apparatus. This study is a good beginning in the efforts to understand the mechanisms underlying protein folding limitations in the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum.

Different glycosylation requirements for the synthesis of enzymatically active angiotensin-converting enzyme in mammalian cells and yeast
-
T synthesis, transport to the cell surface, cleavage processing, and enzymatic activity. Results from the experiments indicate that eukaryotic protein trafficking and post-translational modification may not be equivalent in yeast and higher eukaryotes.
