    • Single-ion irradiation facilities are available at Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung, Darmstadt, Germany. The ion beam is defocused and shut promptly as soon as one ion goes through the samples and reaches the detector. The number of formed "latent tracks" is given by the number of ions used for irradiating the sample.
