    • The rise and fall of the Phytophthora infestans lineage that triggered the Irish potato famine
    • This paper demostrated the power of using herbarium samples to understand the evolution of a plant pathogen and its host over long period of times. This study identified the unique strain of Phytopththora infestans that triggered the Great Irish Famine and caused the 19th century epidemic. This study also showed the change in ploidy level from diploid to triploid and tetraploid between 19th and 20th century P. infestans clonal lineages.
