We also performed titration experiments for ONa with 1 mol% additional aliphatic acid sodium salt. However, because of the smaller ratio, it was difficult to obtain data in good resolution against the volume of titrant The d-spacing of myelin figure composed of stearoyloleoylphosphatidylcholine was reported as 6.0 nm in

a of 1 and its substitute, the change of the chemical shift of the enriched carbon was not seen between pH 6 and 9 Related discussions regarding the dynamics of medium-length surfactants have been reported by Vaz's group. Their studies are different from ours in terms of what is transported, but the molecular behaviors may be similar to each other

N-Decanoyl-l-alanine (1) is a very effective molecule for helix elongation. The precise reason for the high efficiency of 1 is still unknown. Many N-acyl amino acids, including 1, can be reversibly gelated owing to the intermolecular hydrogen bonding between amide groups (ref. 21-23, and a). In addition, it has been proposed that molecular gelation of the inner membrane changes the phase behavior of the membrane to increase its permeability (b and c). These properties may play some roles in the efficient transport of molecules to the terminal scaffold to elongate the helical assembly
