    • Treadmilling is the process whereby the filaments of actin maintain a constant length. This occurs because F-actin is polarized and ATP-actin polymerizes at the barbed end while ADP-actin depolymerises from the pointed end and the monomeric actin that escapes diffuses back to the barbed end, i.e. treadmills.
