Neonatal abstinence syndrome following methadone or buprenorphine exposure
-
This study reports the results of a large, international, multisite randomized clinical trial employing a double-blind, double-dummy protocol comparing methadone with buprenorphine treatment during pregnancy. Results indicate that, although buprenorphine-treated women were more likely to discontinue treatment, among infants, buprenorphine exposure resulted in reduced requirements for medication to treat NAS and shorter hospital stays
