This study shows that a single intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide is effective as an adjunctive treatment to systemic immune suppression in refractory uveitic CME, resulting in resolution of CME and improvement of visual acuity in most patients. This is allowed for the dosage of the systemic immune suppressives to be reduced or stopped in most cases.

This retrospective review identifies common etiologies of TASS, allowing surgical centers to change their practices as needed to prevent TASS. The most common causes of TASS were inadequate cleaning and flushing of ophthalmic instruments and hand pieces. The use of intraocular medications with preservatives or additives was also associated with TASS in a significant number of cases.

This study highlights the risk of endothelial damage and TASS when multiple intracameral preparations are used in complicated cataract surgery. It shows that free radicals are present in intracameral preparations.

This study follows the long-term results of patients with uveitis who underwent cataract surgery and indicates that there is an overall benefit to cataract surgery in this patient population. The results show that sharp-edged hydrophilic and hydrophobic IOLs perform well in eyes with uveitis. There is also higher uveal biocompatibility with the modern hydrophilic acrylic IOLs than with the hydrophobic acrylic IOL.

This retrospective study of uveitic patients undergoing cataract surgery identifies predictors of long-term visual acuity. It shows that preoperatively observed macular lesions are independently associated with poor visual outcome. However, sex, age at cataract surgery, preoperative vision, cause of uveitis, and preoperative anterior segment disorders are not associated with failure of vision improvement.
