Developmental differences in megakaryocytopoiesis are associated with up-regulated Tpo signaling through mTOR and elevated GATA-1 levels in neonatal megakaryocytes
-
This study demonstrates that human neonatal megakaryocytes are cytoplasmically mature and shows that neonatal megakaryopoiesis is characterized by an uncoupling of proliferation, polyploidization, and cytoplasmic maturation. It also describes the molecular mechanisms underlying this unique pattern, including an upregulation of the mTOR signaling pathway downstream of Tpo and elevated levels of full-length GATA-1 in neonatal compared with adult megakaryocytes

Developmental stage-specific interplay of GATA1 and IGF signaling in fetal megakaryopoiesis and leukemogenesis
-
This study describes the dependency of fetal megakaryocyte progenitors on the IGF signaling pathway, and the developmental stage-specific interplay of upregulated IGF/IGF-1R/mTOR signaling and GATA-1 that tightly controls the proliferation of fetal megakaryocyte progenitors. The article also provides insight into the mechanisms that explain the developmental stage selective effects of GATA-1 short mutations

Differences between newborn and adult mice in their response to immune thrombocytopenia
-
This study provides insight into the response of fetuses/neonates to consumptive thrombocytopenia, and shows that fetal/neonatal megakaryocytes have a developmental limitation in their ability to increase in size in response to increased platelet demand
