In the case of SR steps there should be an additional term in (1) that accounts for interaction of the monopoles due to the discontinuity of surface stress at the step-edge. We have ignored this term in our analysis of vicinal surfaces with θ>3° since the magnitude of this term becomes significant for small vicinal angles (θ<1°)
