VRPC in wild-type mice were lowered by RAS blockade or blood pressure lowering. SDF-1 and MMP9 might be involved in VRPC recruitment.

Silvestre Combination of the angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor perindopril and the diuretic indapamide activate postnatal vasculogenesis in spontaneously hypertensive rats J Pharmacol Exp Ther 325 2008 766 773 In this study, the effects of a 2-week treatment with ACEi (perindoprilat), ARB (losartan), ROS-scavenger N-acetyl-l-cysteine (NAC), a diuretic (hydralazine), and BM-MNC infusion are tested on vasculogenesis after femoral artery ligature in Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY) or spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). All treatments restored reduced vessel growth in SHR to WKY levels, reduced BM-MNC ROS levels, and increased cultured adherent VRPC. Effects on blood c-Kit+/CD34+ VRPC varied, depending on treatment and presence of hindlimb ischemia. (Pubitemid 351724312)

ACEi treatment increased VRPC levels, p-ERK, and MMP-9 activity. Statin therapy enhanced BM VEGF levels, and eNOS activity, and normalized ROS levels. The treatment effects on VRPC number associated with improved cardiac function and increased capillary density in the peri-infarct area 7 days post-MI, and were sustained for 10 weeks.
