    • In vitro, the fact that the metal can add and lose H2O results in a reduction of the internal energy of the catalyst, which allows a higher production of [1dppp+3]2+, and a lower decomposition (loss of methanol). The main contribution to the loss in internal energy concurrent with dissociation of the neutral leaving species (including H2O) is from vibrational energy. A lesser portion is taken away by the kinetic and rotational energies of the neutral species, see: B. Sztáray, T. Baer, J. Phys. Chem. A 2002, 106, 8046.
