    • Analogous to related D,L-isocyanopeptides, 8b could also be polymerised by initiation of acid leading to polymers having the same chiroptical properties as those obtained with nickel catalysis. Since the polymerisation of PS with acid is slower as compared to the nickel catalysed polymerisation, the λ = 290/360 nm couplet is immediately observed and slowly diminish over time.

    • In the case of P2, however, no λ = 290/360 couplet is observed, even after several hours. This couplet is usually observed for polyisocyanides that exhibit a less defined hydrogen bonding network. In the case of P2 this couplet was only observed after work-up.
