Influence of catechol-O-methyltransferase Val158Met polymorphism on neuropsychological and functional outcomes of classical rehabilitation and cognitive remediation in schizophrenia. Neurosci Lett 2007; 417:271-274. RCT of cognitive rehabilitation versus placebo finding that those who were carriers of the MET allele of the COMT gene benefited most from cognitive rehabilitation. Those with the VAL/VAL allele also benefited and their final performance was no worse than those in the MET carrier group who received placebo, suggesting that cognitive rehabilitation may benefit even those whose genetic make-up is associated with poorer cognitive performance.
