An excellent study from the pioneers in the field of metabolic inflammation describing an interesting pathophysiological mechanism responsible for the chronic low-grade metabolic inflammation of obesity and most probably of the hyperresponse of the obese to high-fat diets. The STAMP2 membrane receptor in adipocytes blocks the TLR4 inflammatory cascade; its expression decreases as the visceral adipocyle accumulates triglycerides in obesity. A 'must'-read article.
