This study forms part of J.E. Brown's PhD dissertation project under the sponsorship of Professor C.A Stepien. Stepien's research programme focuses on the genetic patterns of invasions by Ponto-Caspian species in the North American Great Lakes. Her Great Lakes Genetics Laboratory also is studying the invasions of dreissenid mussels and Eurasian ruffe, as well as the systematics of gobies in the Ponto-Caspian region.
