This article describes the relationships and differences between the various kinds of suicidal behaviors and shows that there are great differences between fatal and nonfatal suicidal behaviors. This has important implications for the prevention of suicide and nonfatal suicidal behavior.
3. Biddle L, Brock A, Brookes ST, Gunnell D. Suicide rates in young men in England and Wales in the 21st century: time trend study. BMJ 2008; 336:539-542. This study shows how suicide rates in young men change with time, increasing until the end of the 20th century and then decreasing. These dramatic changes are important in understanding what drives trends in suicide and enables us to tease out potential risk factors.

Am J Psychiatry 2007; 164:1356-1363. This article provides evidence to show how reduction in prescription of SSRIs increases rates of suicide in adolescents and gives us an insight into how vigorous treatment of depression in youth can prevent suicide.

14. Brent DA, Melhem N. Familial transmission of suicidal behavior. Psychiatr Clin North Am 2008; 31:157-177. This article shows how suicide is transmitted in families, especially adolescent suicide and shows how the different forms of suicidal behavior may be related to each other.
15. Mann JJ, Currier D. A review of prospective studies of biologic predictors of suicidal behavior in mood disorders. Arch Suicide Res 2007; 11:3-16. This is the most comprehensive in-depth review of the subject of biology and suicide and is a must read for anybody interested in the subject.

This is a systematic sequential study of the role of aggression in suicidal youth. Aggression is a classical component of suicidal behavior and this is a very good study of its vicissitudes.

This longitudinal study provides important information on the precursors of suicidal behavior, which put individuals at higher risk of suicide. This first report of precursors of suicidal behavior is an important work, which provides valuable information to help identify families at very high risk of having a child with suicidal behavior.
